One man offer his '94 Taurus 3.8. Looks good, but has vac. leak somewhere under a dash.... Brake booster wont work well, rought idle and stalls when MAF is connected... I think all is ralated with vac. leak.
Is a reason to get his car....? I want to purchaise it this summer for driving to work (aero will be used too). And may be this summer aero will have some time to stay in workshop for engine rebuild....
Quation #2.
My friend got 1988 Isuzu Gemini. Good car, but he has no technical info. I tried to search for, but.... may be someone knows a good forum like FTE....
Close off the line at the engine that goes to the dash. Usually when dash lines leak they won't cause an issue with running because they are small. I would double check..
Be aware the 3.8L engine in that year and '95 were notoriously prone to head gasket failures. We had a '95 and it developed said problem right on schedule, around 100,000 miles. Other than the head gasket problem, they also had problems with heater core leaks and the core is buried well under the dash making repairs a nightmare.
probably cracked brake booster vac. diaphram from old age creates large vacuum leak
love the trend setting styling of the Taurus line, was the most popular selling car in US for a number of years.
lots of problems with the automatics in the early years , AXOD beast i think
3.8L is not my favorite Ford engine by far.
the Taurus/Sable with the 3L V6 was an outstanding car.
i had an 86 station wagon w the 3L that we put over 200k miles on with no troubles, great reliable family car.
Yea, the 3.8 had bad head gaskets. If the vacuum leak is for sure behind the dash I probably wouldn't buy it. Not worth the hassle. Just my opinion though.
Owner got E250 and explorer, but both need minor repare. He said, that when one of them will be reasy for daily driving he will repare vac. leak and change engine seals, pnly after that he will sell it to me.
I had vac. leak in my aero. Had similar simptoms. Replaced 2 hoses for free and now she runs well.
