What trans?

Im going to look at a 1991 F250 4X4 with a 5 speed manual trans and a 302 5.0 engine.

What trans would be in here? Would it be a ZF? I dont think they used them behind a 302? Reason Im asking is the truck is pretty cheap but needs a motor. I was thinking of putting one of the 351W's kicking around my place but dont know if the trans would hold up.

Ideas?

Someone have the vin code to let me know what trans it is??

Thanks,

If you click on Tech Info on the top line of this forum page you will get a door sticker transmission decoder. From that I get that Code C is Mazda 5-speed, Code M is ZF 5-speed and Code W is Dana ZF 5-speed.
Hope this helps and that your trip is worthwhile.

Sorry I DO NOT see a tech info on the top of this forum page or on a single page here to click on. Door Sticker is Trans type M however I found that M just means manual 5 speed w/ over drive on another page here under Articles / Specs. Please if someone could help me here. Vin is 1FTEF26N2MLA83230 Its a 1991 F 250 4X4 W/ a 5.0 and five on the floor. I just need to know what trans is under this truck.

When you look at the truck, crawl under and look at the transmission, zf's have pto covers on both sides. this is a 2wd zf, but 4wds look the same execept no tailshaft.

Good info from 86S. Probably too late now but look on the top line of this forum page right next to "Read First" in big red letters and you will see Tech Info with the transmission decoder.

Maybe if you explained it a little better the first time I might have been able to find it then. Thanks non the less as I was finally able to find what you were talking about.
