sending unit question

Had to take a little break from my brake problem and started on my sending units. Well we found out that the float had a hole in it so we drilled a hole to drain the fuel then its being soldered up now. But we did find a big problem. The black plastic piece on the end is all dry rotted, I don't suspect my sending unit to be bad but that needs fixed. Is there anyway to do away with that piece and just use a piece of fuel line to reach the very bottom of the tank? H

Here is a photo of what im talking about, the piece is to the very right of the picture.

WEll we went ahead on tried it that way but we kind of ran into another problem. We hooked up the wire to the sending unit before we put it in the tank and turned on the key the gauge showed empty ran it up all the way full, half way it showed half, but as soon as we stick it in the tank it quits working, it will go straight to empty. Anyone know whats causing it to do it, and how to fix it?

Uh yeah! Half full, seems like once it hits the fuel it goes to empty.

Check the float again. It's either full of fuel again, or your soldering job made it too heavy and It sinks.

My guess, if it works as you say by hand.

I checked the float again, no holes floats on top of all the fuel but once the electronic piece hits the fuel empty it goes.

Do they have a fix for these without buying the whole sending unit since there so dang expensive? I'm sure the electronic part is the same for gas.

Nothing I'm aware of. The only reliable fix for somnething like that would be a new one.

No fix, you have to buy the complete assembly > > .

> > It's DIESEL ONLY = I looked up the numbers already, what tank do you need the sending unit for?

E5TZ9275F - midship tank sender MSRP: $124.00 / ftepartsguy.com price: $89.28 **

E5TZ9275K - aft axle sender (part number's been updated, I'll have to look for the new #)

** FTE has Ford dealer parts department sponsors that give discounts to FTE members.

So dang expensive? = Most dealers today jack up Fords suggested retail price (MSRP) = waaay up!

You buy any parts from an FTE sponsor, the discount is figured from the MSRP (usually between 20-30% off).

Yeah I am needing actually both of them. The midship will go to where the fuel is then will go all the way to full. So Id go ahead and do both, (something to spend my stimulus on)

The midship sender is still available, but I'm not sure about the aft axle tank sender.

The part number is no good, but it may have been updated...I'm running it right now.

btw: The largest Ford obsolete parts seller in the world is located, guess where?

Cincinnati

GREEN SALES = 513-731-3304 / 800-543-4959 greensalescompany.com

They do not have the sender, but I thought you might want the info for future reference.

The aft axle sender is OBSOLETE.

I'll see if any of the obsolete parts sellers has one.

Is the aft axle gas tank steel or plastic?
