I have been looking into upgrading the 351w engine in my '88 f-150 with such things as an aftermarket air intake system, throttle body, heads, gt-40 intake manifold, and heads. I have heard that in order to do this it is wise to switch to the mass air system that is found in some of the newer trucks. First off, do I really need to make the switch, and if so what parts in particular? I heard I can get the system from '94 - '96 trucks, but im not sure what to change. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You do have to convert to mass air with the mods you stated. If you did it with the speed density system you will actually loose power and your rig will run like c#$%. As for the years I have no idea..... You can buy the kit from ford motorsport and a few other manufacturers
Did you use the Ford Motorsport kit on yours, or did you use aftermarket? If you did use aftermarket, which kit and what do you think of it? I'm leaning towards buying the Motorsport kit, as I've read of problems with some of the aftermarket kits, and I'm curious. The Motorsport is pricey, but it will be worth it to me (over the price of the others) if it works as it's supposed to.
I have the motorsport kit. It was a pretty easy install and I have had no problems with it. I had some upgrades to my rig with the speed density system and when I switched it made a night and day difference....
Sounds good. Thanks! I'd like to keep my 302EFI, if I could get it to make enough torque (just enough to make my Bronco get out of its own way, and tow a trailer occasionally.) I read your post re: the E303 cam. I'm watching that with interest, also, as swapping in a 351W or stroking the 302 out to a 347 would both involve more work and money, and if the 302 with the roller cam, GT40 (or P) heads, and headers would do the job I don't necessary need to go with more displacement. (Especially since I'm going to be converting to mass air and using GT40 or GT40P heads, anyway, no matter what engine option I go with). Speaking of which..... did you ever find a decent deal on cast iron GT40'S? I found a set advertised at $649.00 per pair, if you're interested.....
I've priced one out, so far, at $750.00. I'm thinking that there are likely better deals to be had, but I haven't shopped around. The Ford Motorsport kit I checked on did come with a new computer, as well as the mass air sensor, and EFI wiring harness. As I mentioned earlier, I've read where some of the other, lower priced kits aren't as thorough (don't include some type of jumper harness for the EEC), and have idle quality problems.
I got my mass air conv kit from Evans Ford out of Georgia. The kit cost me about 600. If u go to Corral.net alot Mustang people go to carbs and put the system up for sale. You check there or on EBay.
