i bought this truck bout 6months ago(04 f250 cc fx4 6.0).I finally decided i wpould try out the 4wd so i did. well i locked all the hubs and put it in 4wd and backed up i heard it pop in so i put it in drive and i could barely turn the wheel it almost acted like something was pushing me foward and was popping about every revolution anybody have any ideas
Were you on hard surface? Pavement? You should not do that. Your front wheels and rear wheels need to turn at slightly different speeds, and that happens on soft surfaces because the tires can slip a little bit.
Hopefully you have not done any damage to the transfer case. The pushing back on the steering wheel is because the drivelines are in a bind. It's normal. Test it on dirt or grass and you will have better results.
really so 4x4 on pavement is not good its hard for me to believe it totaly looks the steering because its on a hard surface
It's a definite no-no to use 4x4 on hard dry surface. Check your owners manual. As for locking up your steering - well it will buck back on you for sure. But "totally locks the steering" as you put it sounds extreme. There could be something else going on.
I would like to see you get it out on some dirt and try it before doing anything else. Any dirt or gravel area is fine. If something is really locking it then it should happen on a soft surface too. On the other hand, if it steers okay on dirt then it's probably okay.
What is the mileage on the truck? Being an 04 i would'nt think they would be too bad, Unless it has high mileage and/or the previous owner beat the crap out it in 4weel or never used it. I would guess the u-joints as well. You will get some jerking off road or on wet or snow at or close to full wheel lock normally. If you have to replace and use the 4 wheel often or do any agressive off roading go with spicers without zerck fittings.
