I used to drive a '78 F150 4X4, but it had the 351M (not the Windsor). As I recall, Chilton's had a chart which listed the peak hp at 142, and the peak torque at 240 ft./lb. (I can't recall the respective rpm's for each, but they were somewhere in the low-end to mid-range). Basically, pretty sick figures for an engine with as much potential as the 351.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Jan-02 AT 11:05 PM (EST)] I,m considering the windsor instead of a 460 to build for my truck. Is it relatively easy to get around 350 hp out of the windsor with aftermarket bolt-ons and still have decent torque as it's going in a 4x4.
With a good breathing set of heads 350hp ain't much trouble even with a fairly mild cam. You aren't going to get there with the stock heads tho. For just $300 to $400 more during the rebuild you can drop in a stroker crank with 302 pistons and get 393 cubes. That is some pretty cheap horsepower. Had I known it was that cheap and easy I would have done that when I built mine.

Did you switch to Mass Air
Supposedly the SD computer can't handle big changes like yours

If you have got the bucks you can't go wrong with Edelbrock, Trickflow, AFR, or World Products. At the very least you would need GT-40s or GT-40Ps and a little porting work would probably need to be done on these. A set of D0OEs off a 69 or 70 is also a good choice and would probably rival the GT-40s. The D0OEs when ported and fitted with 1.94 and 1.6 valves are supposed to be about as good as a set of Edelbrocks, but all that work don't come cheap. I have Edelbrocks on my truck and am purchasing a set of bare D0OEs tonight to work over for installation on my T-Bird project. I will probably have $500 to $600 in these heads when it is all said and done, this includes new valves, springs, studs, guideplates, guides and machine work. I am going to port them myself with the article posted at Fordmuscle.com
as my guide.
Good Luck

FYI, I decided not to get the D0OEs after all because they were gonna cost me $630 with cheap valves and springs. My son works at a parts warehouse and can get me a set of Edelbrocks for around $800 so I am gonna save my $$$s up and get another set of those. If Uncle Sam is nice to me this year I may stroke it and install a roller cam too. It should be a pretty bad combo.
