I'm taking the heads from my 90 5.0 donner motor, and putting them on my 87 5.0 Bronco. I'm planning on doing a (port & polish) job on them, and I'm just wondering has anybody else has done this, and what kind of results you may have got? THANX! for any input.
Because I had a burnt exhaust valve that led to a cracked head,(I posted "Need Advise" about two weeks ago. And it tells more about it). Anyway, I'm kinda new with working on my own truck, & PCs as well, I think FTE's is GREAT! And I've never done a port & polish job before. So I was hoping someone who's done this on their truck might have some feedback. Be it, good or bad. One of my thoughts is, Will a P&P help much without a mass air sensor? I think it's needed for any real intake upgrades on my truck??? Or maybe, this isn't a "REAL" intake upgrade. Not sure? It's got a K&N filter and a pretty good exhaust system. HEDMANS to a 2'1/2 Y to 3' high flow cat to a 3' in and two 2' 1/2 out Flowmaster. So, have any of you done this without the sensor? And if so, With what kind of results? THANX!
All a port and polish will do is allow the head to flow better. This will result in less heat build up, less carbon build up and an over-all longer lasting head. With the air/fuel mixture coming in better, and the exhaust flowing out better (helped along with your exhaust system) you should see a gain in horse power as well as a fuel mileage gain. Again, that is a "should see" not a "will see".
I will check the other forum, And for HP & MPG, I hope so, this is turning out to be quite a little time eater. I'll post results when done. THANX again!
