Since gas prices are so high, ive been loking at a 2dr focus. one is a '02 svt with 78,000miles and adult owned. The other a '03 2dr stock with a 5 speed and 60,000 on the clock.
are there any problem areas on theses cars? my mom had a '00 and we had it for 4 years or so. i liked that car and i got great milage.
My sister has a Focus she bought new in 2000. It's a 4 door ZX2. It's got around 130K on it. I gotta say that car has been beaten to **** and still runs and drives great. Some probs she's had are front wheel bearings and rear tire wear. It's been 4wheel aligned 3 times but the rear tires still wear like the toe is off. Other than that it's been a great car with good gas milage.
I wouldn't even bother with with a 2 door hatchback, not enough room. Get a 4 door with a 5 speed.
I hear good things about the SVT Focus. I would defiantely go with that one, unless you have a big problem with leaving a car stock then go with the other to save money.
Think about this... Get a 2000 Focus for cheap, and for around $10K you can convert it to a 5.0L, 5 speed, rear wheel drive sleeper. There are companys that make kits for this.
there pretty good cars, the first 2 or 3 years they were riddled with recalls, but around 03-04 they started getting worked out and by 05 they were pretty much perfect. by now a used focus should have had all the recalls performed and should be good to go for a couple hundred thousand. mines got 40,000 miles on it and i'm just now having to do the rear brakes, fronts have about another 10k on em. other then that all i've had to do is oil changes. I was on the original perellis for about 23,000 miles and other then my driving habbits, no unusual wear, put another 15,000 on snow tires, still perfect, and now i'm on 17" summer tires.
If your lookin for maximum fuel milage stay away from the 2.3. any one of the 2.0(except svt) will get 4 to 5 mpg more, easily. if your looking for decent(avg 28ish mpg) fuel milage with some fun loving power, look for an svt, or anyone of the 2.3 equipted focus.
