How easy is it to swap my 6.9 to a 460? gas is way cheaper than diesel and i have mor knowledge of gas engines than diesel and seeing how my engine died im thinking of doing a gas swap. Any info would be great!
I wouldn't be. Depends on your trans on how easy. If you have a 4 speed then find you a bell housing an go with it on your trans you have now. It is the same clutch.
I am sure it is a 19. The thing anybody can notice with the difference with an 18 and a 19. The 19 has a synchronized first gear. An 18 doesn't.
You can use a bell housing of an 18 but what does help is that the 6.9's had hydro clutch release. There are trucks from the early 80's that had a mechanical clutch release. My brother had an 80 or 81 that did. It was also different in that it had a one piece drive shaft. The manual trans had a slide yoke in the trans like most automatics. I can't remember what trans it was. It was a 3/4 ton with a 351W. You may not be able to use the bell housing off of that trans but you could use the linkage.
If I come across another truck like that I will get those parts off. I am a collector
