How many of you remember playing tabletop shuffleboard when you were a kid?
We still play when we go to our fishing club or the VFW one of the best games to drink to that and table top bowling
One of the bars I played in long ago had two of those things at the back. Beutifully finished & laquered wood surface, lots of sand. We made the mistake of playing one night and discovered how terribly addicitive it can be - for weeks thereafter you could find the band between sets at the back hunched over the shuffle boards. Which, in hind sight, was a good thing 'cause it kept us from interacting too much with the ultra-sleaze in that particular bar.
It is still big at some clubs around here. A club about five minutes away still has slidey board tournaments every Thursday night. Back in the day, or night as it were, I used to be pretty damned good. Still am as long as my back holds up.
In team tournament my cousin and I have even won out over shuffle board legend Billy Mays. Not that I was ever in his league. Was just tossing them better that night.
I prefer a braking board as I am more of a finesse player. As opposed to a puck slammer. But, I can bust 'em pretty hard if I need to. My wife's uncle taught me how to play in a VFW back in the early '80s. Since I am right handed, he made me learn shooting left handed only....the first three months. Sure made me a better player.
I love shuffle board and air hockey! I'm the air hockey king (or queen, or......well, I'm pretty good anyway)! The bar here that used to have a shuffle board (the Double Eagle) closed years ago. There's a bar in Mammoth we used to go to that has one, don't recall the name now. We had an air hockey table in the gameroom at my old house, looked into a shuffleboard but it was really expensive. We also had a foosball table, remember that?
