First off, hey everybody! It's good to be here, this is my first post, hopefully it will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
Ok, so here is my simple question..my dad owns an '85 F-250 with a 300 straight 6...we are forever doing work on this thing which is to be expected since it has something like 700,000 miles on it and it has a HUGE utility bed with literally tons of equipment in it..
Anyway, it recently started doing some weird stuff which we realized was a failing coil. My question is how does one determine if this truck needs an internally regulated coil or an externally regulated coil. The leads coming off the brain are putting out 7 volts, I think, which makes us think that that is where the regulation is happening but were not positive.
Sorry for all the extra stuff, just wanted to let everyone know who I was and what I'm dealing with...
You need an coil that requires an external resistor. Don't buy one that has a internal resistor or a resistor built in.
There should be no problem, since the coil you are going to need as far as I know is for a Ford anyway. It will have pins on it that will accept the horse shoe connector.
