Steering conversion to Dodge box?

I have a '73 f100 4X4 and it is having the usual power steering assist problems (leaking, no assist) and I was wondering through a few junk yards yesterday and looked at a mid '80's to early 90's Dodge 4X4 and it looks like the power steering gear mounts about the same as ours so I started wondering if anyone had tried this conversion?
It mounts to the outside of the frame like our stock ones do, it has the same rotation as ours do the major things that seems different is the length of the down shaft and that the pitman arm is currently designed to connect to the drivers side wheel like a highboy does. I was thinking that maybe I could re-install the pitman arm about 90 degrees back from it current position and then build an adapter plate from 3/8" material for the mounting holes.
Has anyone tried this before?
Thanks in advance.
