Got a 289 in a '68 fairlane and looking to possible go EFI. I know of a '93 F250 w/ a 302 EFI that runs like a raped ape and got to wondering if the 302 intake will sit on my 289? Anyone ever accomplished this? I'm fairly new to the windsors so gimme all you got. I figured the larger ci injectors for a 302 would feel good on a 289 too.
well that was my next question, I was workin on a 5.8 yesterday and measured the height of the plenum and its around 8" or so. I dont konw that I will have clearance but are there any other factory efi intakes besides the large snorkel type?
I'm not too sure about the EFI intake variations but have heard there was a TBird unit that was lower than the standard height ones. Perhaps someone can verify this.
yes I know those will work but are there any other factory plenums besides the snorkel overhang type?
All the factory small block EFI intakes have the long runners that bend over 1 side or the other, the upside is they really do help broaden the powerband on small displacment motors. You'll have to look at the aftermarket for carb style EFI intakes.

Yes, T-birds as well. Thats what I was getting with mentioning the mustang, vic, and explorer. Their manifolds are a lot lower than the truck manifolds. T-birds I hear are one of the lowest for height, but the worst for flow. Ive seen many 5.0 stang manifolds on vintage fords. Unless its just the look he doesnt like?
Now that I know that, what year stang would you guys recommend me pulling the guts on as far as having the fewest amount of complications/sensors to deal with? I looked up parts for a '94 stang and theres a EGR position sensor and a couple of others that didnt' seem 100% necessary unless I ran that system so if I'm thinking I'm gonna go w/ an older system such as one from late 80's to 90-91 era. Anyone got a particularly good year? Also wanting to have a system that only requires one O2 sensor.
Also, since this is goin in an old fairlane, I'm not exactly going to need a speed sensor either and I'm not gonna have a place to put one so is that gonna mess me up? I don't need it for the speedometer obviously or for shift points so the computer won't miss it being there will it?
I think your best bet would be a EFI system from an 86-89 CrownVic or Grand Marquis since you are converting over a 289 with the standard firing order. The 86-95 EFI mustangs use the HO or 351w firing order. The Vic/Grand use a speed density system that does not require the use of a vehicle speed sensor VSS (they are equipped with one but not needed for the computer to function properly). Even though the 86-88 mustangs were speed density they still use the HO/351w firing order, are you using a standard 289/302 cam or a 351w cam in your 289? The later 89-95 mass air equipped mustangs computers do require a speed sensor. All these systems have two O2 sensors though, I think the early EFI trucks are the ones that have only one O2 sensor since their injection is batched fired and the CFI cars had one O2.
well my fairlane has an original 90k on it and the motor does not smoke at all. I like the 289 anyways and I figured the little extra gas from the 302 injectors would feel that much better. besides, I don't have time right now to pull the motor. I'm just planning what I'm gonna do w/ it right now so that I don't go buy a new carb and 2 years later convert to efi. See what I mean? I'm tryin to plan this one out.
