I have a source on a 5.4 3 valve engine for 200 dollars and I was wondering if the heads would bolt up to my 2 valve 4.6? Has anyone ever tried this swap before?
I currently have a 1995 4.6L that will be installed in my old pickup and figure if this would work this would be a lot less expensive than buying PI heads.
Not a direct bolt on, because the 3V engines use variable cam timing and drive by wire throttlebodies. With out the wiring, and such, it wouldn't be worth the effort to me.
The intake and exhaust manifolds do not interchange.
Thanks guys for the information. I was really hoping the 3 valve head would be a simple swap as I had found an 5.4 engine for only 200 dollars. The 5.4 would be too expensive to use as it was an engine only and I would have to come up with a wire harness, transmission and all of that.
I guess in the mean time I will keep my 4.6 and look for some PI heads at a local junkyard.
