brake

I just received my brake controller, Tekonsha P3 and I want to ask if I could position it in an almost vertical position? I want to reduce the distance between the dash and the controller and get more space in the cab.

Thanks in advance.

That's covered in the instructions. You know, that paper thingie that came with in the box? If reading ain't your thing, I believe there is a CD you can play too.

With the Prodigy, predecessor to the P3, it could be up to 45 degrees off horizontal I believe. I don't think vertical will work for you though. But it really should be covered in the manual.

So... to be sure.

Good controller. Good luck.

Thanks bill, the instructions say that should be in an horizontal plane viewing the fase of the controller and in parallel with the midline of the truck, but nothing about horizontal or vertical viewing fron back to front. I have seen here some pics and seems that they are a little inclined but Im not sure, thats why as asked. and they say that the controller itself adjusts if you are uphill or downhill, maybe it doesnt mater if its horizontal or inclined. And yes I have to watch the little CD.

Well the P3 might be a little different. But my Prodigy had a drawing showing the angle permitted. I don't remember the value for certain, but I'm thinking it was 45 degrees. Also, I think it had a display that would tell you if it was tilted too far up or down. Check that idea too. It's been about a year since I got the Ford integrated controller and sold my Prodigy or else I would look it up for you.

I'm sure the info is in there somewhere though, because that's a very common question any user would have.

IIRC, the Prodigy is 0-70 degrees.

Yes it is. I looked up an online manual this morning. Unfortunately Tekonsha has not yet put the P3 manual on line. Too new I guess. But I'm with you and think it will be the same. In fact I think the P3 is really just a Prodigy with upgraded display. So, 70 degrees is really close to the 90 the OP was looking for. Personally, I would stay back from that limit a little bit. There is an on screen display that lets you know if you get too vertical.Bill

Arrow

Thanks again amigos, I watched the DVD and they dont mention there anything about the degrees of the nouse (up or down) they said that it is in the instructions, but there is not there. But in the DVD they show the controller in an inclined position, maybe the 70 degrees, and I installed similar to them, I checked and There is nothing on screen display that lets you know if you get too vertical, at least as I installed it. I also tried to get an online instruction but negative.
Thanks againg.

Okay, I found these instructions online:
Trailer Hitch Instructions For DrawTite, Reese, Hidden Hitch & More - etrailer.com

About the middle of page 4 it says:

Automatic Leveling of the Sensor
The P3 will automatically acquire the proper level
setting. It will also automatically adjust as you travel
up or down hills.

That is the only mention of leveling fore and aft. Side to side needs to be level, and the unit needs to be parallel front to back with the vehicle axis. I read this to mean that the P3 does not need to be leveled like the previous Prodigy model. It electronically levels itself.

So, did you mount it yet?

Bill

Thumbs up

Ok, thats what I wanted to understand, that the P3 does not need to be leveled like the previous Prodigy model. It electronically levels itself.

Really thanks a lot, to all of you.
