You are so right Colin! I remember that first night! We just had the little one sleep with us for the first few months. Then we KNEW everything was OK. Besides, the wife nursed all ours.

Actually you can by monitors with a video camera built in so you can see the baby in the other room.
Will both of our kids, we had them in a basinette in our room for a month or 2 after they came home from the hospital.

The babies room was right across the hall from our bedroom so listening for the baby was never a problem. The wife did want to keep the baby in the room at first but after the first few nights she soon got over that.
