thats what i figured, but theres another thread on the go that mentioned something about the icp sensor, so i dunno, made me think.. guess I'll have to start with the simple things first, I'll pickup a gasket set for the hpop res. hopefully its that simple... i just bought this truck, i don't need to be sinking more money in it.
No reason to take it from the dealer. We can walk you through this stuff, and if you like OEM parts we have a few sponsors that are Ford dealers that sell their parts at a big discount.
well, i truly appreciate everybodys help, I'm a heavy truck mechanic, just a little shy on small diesel engine knowledge. Worked on a number of 7.3l engines, just easier to spend someone elses money too i guess. Plus I always fear the worst when it comes to my own vehicle. Oh... I also live in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. Not sure where the sponsors are located but I dunno if it'd be worth my while to get it shipped.
Truck has been worse lately to start. Doesn't matter if it's up or downhill. It's not the HPOP reservoir, I check that.
I unplugged the ICP sensor and truck started right away. Do you think it could be the sensor or something else? I ordered a sensor today, but I don't want to put a new sensor on if you guys don't think that the problem.
Unplugging the ICP sensor makes the PCM assume a default level. If you can start the truck with the sensor unplugged, but when you plug it back in you have trouble starting again, I think you've found your problem.
so this is what happened this morning... went out, cranked truck over for what seemed like forever.. no go.. checked the oil in the hpop res. was full... cranked again.. no go.. unplugged icp sens and away we go.. i suppose this could be a coincidence.. tomorrow i'm gonna check the hpop res. before i attempt to start, then try and start, then unplug the icp.. we'll see....
I already bought it, I just haven't put it in yet because it's $186.00 and I want to make sure that this is the problem before I 'use' it and can't return it.

I did the same thing with my EBP sensor. But after a couple of days of getting used to paying for it I went ahead and put it on anyway. Turned out I probably didn't need it, but.......Oh well.........

How about this....start the truck with it unplugged. Then plug it back in while it's running. If it dies you know the money was well spent.
I have a simular start problem, it is intermittent though.
Once it starts it runs fine. After the white smoke clears.
It has happened with warm temps in the 40's, always on first start of the day. I don't think it's GP's because I can just hop in and crank it like a gasser and she will start. Also my LED lights up.
