Air Bag Sensor Issue!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 04 FX4 and a few weeks ago my air bag light would blink and then stay on. After some investigation on the web I found that the front severity sensor has an issue with the pins corroding off. I checked my sensor and long and behold one pin was corroded off. I ordered the part from our friends at Direct Ford Parts. I took it upon myself to add a liberal amount of dielectric grease to the connector. I would suggest anyone with a F series pickup do the same. It is in a bad location right behind the grille and in the middle of the radiator support. Right in the way of every little piece of salt, water and dirt to get to.

Going off?

The answer is no. I disconnected the neg batt term so the system would reset after I fixed the sensor. I heard if you wait a few minutes after disconnecting the neg batt terminal it won't go off. I also read that it takes the force of a hammer to activate the sensor. Play it safe and diconnect the battery like every other mod or fix that has to be done to these trucks.

Sensor part number

Same issue I was having. It started after hitting a pothole. Took me a few days to figure out what it was but after researching and actually looking it was found. The part number to seach for at Directfordparts.com is 6L3Z14B004AA. This is a 2004 F-150with the 5.4L.

I have two items pluged in on that suppoprt rail. One is round and the other rectangle. Which one is the impact sensor? I looked up the part to see if it showed a photo but could not find any photos. I'm not having any problems, but would like to check the pins and grease if needed. Thanks

Sensor location

The sensor is the bottom one. It is rectangle with a barcode on it, if the sticker is still there. It is held in with a 9mm bolt, if I remember correctly. Make sure the bottom of the bolt head is clean, I'm thinking there may be a ground connection to the chassis with the bolt. Not sure about that. The other is the ambient temp sensor for your therometer on the dash. I also put some grease in that plug. My thinking is that it can't hurt.
