Ok so the other day was headed around the the South Puget Sound area driving to Seattle from Bremerton via Tacoma Narrows Bridge. I was heading up the hill towards Port Orchard, about 10 minutes from the house, when I felt what I can only explain as a series of misses. There where a few puffs of white smoke then nothing and the motor just shut down. I pulled over turned on the hazards, popped the hood and had a look around.
Could find nothing out of place or leaking. All wires and vacuum lines seemed in place. I poked around for a few minutes and then went to go grab the cell for a tow, when I put the key to it one more time just to see and with about half throttle she fired up. So I started home. Had to lay into the throttle to merge onto the freeway and she died again. Sat for 5 minutes and started up again.
This time I stuck to the side rodes, under 45 mph, and no problems! Got home and and started on the fuel system. Changed the fuel filter, air filter and and I am totally lost.
Need help pointing me in the right direction. I was thinking fuel line or fuel pump (just replaced that by the way) maybe the fuel return line blocked. But my diesel knowledge is thin, so here I am !

Reason: forgot to add info about the truck duh!
How full were your tanks? I heard the pickup tubes in the tanks can fail and even with 1/4 tank you won't get fuel. Otherwise maybe a failing lift pump would be my guess.
