A buddy of mine has a 1991 dodge caravan, he said all the guages and the seat belt alarm have quit. Said the problem started a few weeks ago when the guages stopped working for a while (didn't say how long) and then started working again. He said this happened several times and now they don't work at all. Also said the check guage light on the dash is on. I know nothing about dodges. Does the dash have a relay, circuit breaker, or anything that could be causing all the guages and belt alarm to quit. Thanks
The dreaded Mopar electrical 'issues' have shown their ugly face
If it runs, the computer and engine-side relay box are probably okay.
He's going to have to try pulling off the bulkhead connector and looking for corrosion on the pins and/or verify that the under-dash connectors are fully seated and clean, those gages are all run by signals from the ECM
OTOH it's not unknown for the whole cluster to go toes-up either
Have him look in at the forums on Allpar, there are a large number of people over there with some decent information........
Our old 93 Grand Caravan use to do the same thing, I spent hours with a Chiltons manual tracking down wires and checking connections to no avail. Try reseting the computer, by disconnecting the battery for awhile, and see if they come back on.
I just learned to live with it on our old POS van. 3 or 4 times a year the gauges would quit, but reseting the computer always brought them back.
