block numbers?

block numbers?

I have a question about the location of the numbers on my block,I have seen some messages here that say they are supposed to be located
near the starter,but mine are on the drivers side near the back.my question is why are they on this side? I have a 79 E 150 with a 302 and as far as I know it is an 87 block. Thanks for any info.
