OD switch

Gents my second truck 96 F250 powerstroke will not get out of overdrive because of either a bad OD switch or from what some friends tell me the wires themselves may be broken somewhere. Its been like this since i bought the truck last year. Begging information on 1) How do you check the switch itself? How does it come out? and 2) If the wires are broke where is the likely location and how do you access these wires for repair. thanks in advance

PS: checked all fuses and they are good.

The switch is momentary.
If you depress it the OD lamp should illuminate.
Remove the cover off the column.
Wiring is known to get damaged from the movement of the gear selector.

There are several screws you'll need to remove before the halves will separate. There will be some resistance, but if you a LOT of resistance, you missed a hidden screw. (Don't ask how I know!)

There is a dial-wheel under there as well. That's for adjusting the position of the gear-selector needle.
