hey fella's today i pulled the code memory test on my bronco, what I got on the koeo was 33. when Iran the koer I got 44 and 77. I was hoping someone could help me decifer these codes and give me some ideas on how to correct these problems. I've got an 88 bronco with the 351w. any help is greatly appreciated.
The code 33 is from the memory, and means at some time or the other, the egr was detected not open when it was supposed to be.
The code 44 means there is something wrong with the smog pump, or related valves and vacuum lines going to the smog pump system.
Code 77 means you did not do the goose test. The computer, after giving you codes, will give you a pulse to signal you to press the accelerator to the floor.
o.k. this morning i did the koer test and hit the throttle when i was suppose to and got the 44 code again, that was the only one i got this time. can you give me some tips on how to find the problem with the pump system.
thanks,
scott
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Mar-02 AT 10:47 PM (EST)]The book says to check for:
blocked, leaking or kinked vacuum lines to the diverter valve system
defective air pump
defective diverter valve
defective or blocked air management solenoids.
Apparently these solenoids are what the computer uses to control the diverter valve, which directs the smog pump air to different hose ouputs. What I can't figure out, is how the computer knows it's not working, unless it diverts the air on purpose and then looks at the oxygen sensor for feedback. The book doesn't explain this.
