Vacuum Advance

I have a rebuilt 302 V8 in my 1973, 3 Speed Manual, 2 Wheel Drive Ford F100. The following work was completed:
Holley 600 Carb
4 V Intake
Towing Cam
MSD 6
MSD Blaster 2 Coil
Ford Distributer, for electronic ignition

The person who installed the motor advanced the timing and did not hook up the Vacuum Advance on the distributer. He stated it will give me more power off the line. I couldn't careless about power off the line. Is this way better or should the Vaccum Advance be hooked up properly and engine re-timed? I am more interested in a good running truck with decent gas mileage.

Thanks for your help

Where is the timing set at at idle now?
You can put it at about 8 degrees BTDC and install the vacuum line from the advance to a ported vacuum port on the carb. On your Holley, it should be the one sticking out of the passengerside of the metering block in front of the choke assembly.
It may be done the way it is now to keep detonation to a minimum. It still has the mechanical advance working in the dizzy.

I doubt the lack of vacuum advance will give you "more power off the line". As one automotive authority wrote years ago, "Unless fuel mileage is of no importance whatsoever, always use a vacuum advance".
