Air Bag Comment.

I was looking for info on air bags and ran across a thread that was discussing where to put the inflation valves. Someone said he put his in the bottom mounting holes on his license plate. I have since ordered AirLift Bags and installed them. I live in an area where there are a lot of kids and if I put my truck on the street they can't keep their hands to themselves. They readjust my mirrors, and take all of the caps off of the inflation valves on the tires.

I put the inflation valves for the bags in the license plate mounting holes and put metal caps on them. They look great and it simply looks like the license plate mounting bolts. Hopefully the kids will think they are just bolts and won't mess with them.

I have searched the forum trying to find the thread where this was mentioned, but can't find it. Anyway, Kudo's to whomever it was that came up with the idea.

I had air bags on a 2500 Gmc. I drilled a hole in the rear bumper, and put the valve there. It worked great.

Thats a good idea on the license plate. I mounted the air valve for the bags on the Expedition just to the right of the place. On my Explorer I put the valve for the air shocks on the plastic piece that is between the bumper and the body of the truck. It is only visible when the rear lift gate is open.

I doubt that I will ever have the need to individually air the bags to different pressures so I wish they had a tee and one inflation valve. It would be a lot easier to set them for the proper loading.

Yours didn't come with a tee? I don't see any reason that you couldn't go to the hardware store and pick up a tee for the airline and then just use one of the valves.

I was kinda in a hurry to get the darn things in. We are taking off for a month this Sunday and everything that could go wrong has. The only load my truck ever hauls is the fifth wheel and I want to be able to adjust the ride when we are towing and solo. I would like to run the line up to the cab and put the inflation valve where it can be easily reached with a full time pressure gauge, so that the pressure could be monitored all the time. Maybe I can hunt the parts and get it done when we get back.

Buy an auto-filler kit... it has a guage and a switch in the truck which opperates a small compressor. You can fill or lower the bags with the touch of a switch! Works wonderfully, and the pump is about the size of two fists. Usually they run about $200 for the kit. Well worth it!

wouldn't a T be a disadvantage? truck on slope, the air goes to the side with less weight on it?

The guy I had install the bags put the valves on the plate the trailer chains attach to.

No, it doesn't matter if it is on a slope or anything like that. Both bags and all of the lines will be the same pressure.

Same pressure, yes, same height, no. The air can "shift" in some extreme cases. I've definately seen it a few times on my truck, but I'm not sure I care enough to change the setup :P It rarely is an issue.

The only way it would shift is if the bag was physically constrained by something else and moving it freed it up.

On my '69 torino the airshocks valve is behind the license plate with the gas filler neck. Maybe you could put it in behind the gas filler door if your truck has one. Good luck, Mike
