Lightbulb nine inch rears...again...

OK...found a couple more locally:

Option 1) ...goin' to check out a 9-inch "complete" rear end for a fair
price but the dude claims to know nothin' about it...I got an
email stating these are the numbers off the tag on the 9-inch
rear end but I can't seem to figure them out (except for the ratio)...

WGB-C..... 1AD..... 2.75 ratio..... 430A

Can anyone tell me WHAT this unit originally would have been installed in???

Option 2) the complete rear end was purchased in Feb 2002 and never installed. Everything was spec'd and provided by Moser Engineering. Ford 9" housing Fits 70-81 Camaro/Firebird/Trans Am using either mono or multi leaf springs. Pro Street 3.70 gear, Detroit Lockers, 31-spline axles with bearings installed. Torino brakes along with drums. The complete rear end cost $2631 back in 2002. Includes all original paperwork.
Housing end to end = 56"
Outside edge of driver's side leaf to outside edge of
passenger leaf =48" (real close to that)
outer drum-to-drum would be around 61.5"

Right now...through email only...I've managed to get the price lowered on
option #2 to right about half of the original investment and I'm still working
on getting it lower in the hopes the we can go check it out this weekend...

Any thoughts?....I just want something that will FIT in our '56 effie...

the first rear end is out of a 70 - 71 T bird, non-locking rear end.

don't know what the measurements on it would be, but it more than likely is set up for coil spring rear end, but not 100% sure of that.

Option 1; Get the Dude to measure the hub to hub then you will know?

Option 2; nice package, geared a little low IMO?

Option 2 sounds like a nice axle to put under your truck but I think the price would scare all but the serious hot rodders. Although at half the price it's probably a nice deal and if you can get it lower and it's within your budget I'd opt for that one.

Option one sounds like your basic 9inch which theres nothing wrong with that if your interested in cruzing and not so much hot rodding Im sure it would make a nice rear end.

I just picked up a mustang gt locker rear with disk brakes built by a local performace shop for a pretty good price (pulled from a crashed GT) even though I have a 9 inch in my garage that came with my truck. I guess it came down to personal preferance and the fact that I wanted a locker rear and disk brakes. Personally I like option 2 and if you can get if for a good price I would go for that one. You should also be able to fit some nice wide tires with that rear. My 2 cents.

Personally I'd go with #2, it's a brand new rear end. There is no way of knowing until you get it installed what condition a used axle is in, and 2.75 will need some real torque to pull. #2 is about the right width (within a 1/4 inch) but may need some perch work. But since it's your money, not mine, I say go for the sure thing!

I was on ebay earlier and saw these 9" parts for sale/local pick up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. eBay Motors: Ford 9" Posi Rear End -2 Each Posi & 9" Non Complete (item 140223884924 end time Apr-18-08 15:45:10 PDT)
This may be more than you want to deal with, but seeing as how it's a local pick up may be gotten fairly cheap.

Question 9" confusion...

Redpanhead...thanks for the heads-up on the kazoo listin'...don't know
how my search could have missed it...searched 200 miles from my
zipcode!!!

I agree with everyones summations...budget is a HUGE factor here but I
only wanna build this babby once...

I was just worried about the width of option #2 but the more I look into it
the width seems CLOSE ...even with the somewhat tall 3.70 gearing it
would be a sweet setup...especially being brand new...

IF it's a little wide, I think I remember looking at "someones" gallery and
saw pictures of where they widened their bed and/or rear fenders...

I could always upgrade to an AOD transmission later on...

THANKX everyone...time to start wheelin' & dealin'...

Depends on how much you can afford to pay, I think 2 is the best choice. I found my 1970 F-100 9" on Craig's List and picked it up for $75.00. I took all the brake parts off the orginal unit and put it on the new unit. The highest expense I had was the Driveshaft modification.

Unhappy Well...it happened AGAIN...

...that's it...I'm just gonna wait 'til my 50'th birthday later this summer
and MAYBE someone will just drop one off in the driveway...

I tired all last Friday afternoon to get ahold of the dude with the BRAND
NEW-never installed Moser Engineering Ford 9" rear end, and on Sat., and
Sun. and then just gave up...

I JUST spoke with him & guess what?...he was "out of town" all weekend
and as soon as he got home late Sunday someone called & scooted over
with the ca$h and snached it up...

Oh...one more thing...he let it go for...$1000.00...
