HELLLP!!!!! Truck just stops!!!!

Hello everyone this is my first post so any help would be appreciated.
I have a 2001 f350 7.3psd 4x4, 100k miles , this started Saturday 4/12/2008,
i will be driving along and all of a sudden the engine will go to an idle, the ses light will come on and no matter what i do, the truck will just sit there, won't rev up no matter how much i push the pedal, this last for about 10sec. and then everything is ok, i am have the cps changed today due to the recall, the dealer said that this could be my problem, i am asking you guys to see what you think and if anyone has had any problems similar to this. thanks alot!

Welcome to FTE.

Let them change the CPS and see if that does the trick. If not, have the codes read and post them on here so we can help you a little more.

Good luck.

Welcome to FTE frosty.

I agree with Rick. It could be the CPS causing this or it could be something else. Keep an eye out for any other symptoms you may notice and let's start with the free CPS repair first.

Yep, do like they said and change the CPS, only I have not heard of a CPS doing that. I kinda sounds like an oil problem. Make sure it's not low before you take and pay the dealer to tell you that. Oh yeah, welcome to the site.

Sounds like the TPS (throttle position sensor )or the IVS (Idle validation switch) ,on.the throttle pedal

You can test the TPS

You need to put a voltmeter across the GY/W and the GY/R wires on the connector to the TPS. With the key on, watch the voltage across the range of the throttle to see if there is any flat spots. You should see no less than .37 volts at idle position and no more than 4.5 volts at full throttle. The the third wire, (BRN/W), is the ref. voltage and should be 5 volts all the time.

The IVS is an on or off switch..

I don't remember where I saved this from....

.

The Accelerator Pedal (TP) sensor provides the PCM with the driver's demand for power. The TP sensor is a three-wire potentiometer that receives VREF from the PCM and returns a signal to the PCM directly proportional to the accelerator pedal position. The TP signal is used in calculating fuel quantity. Also, the TP input is used by the PCM to control the exhaust back-pressure regulator.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
A PCM detected fault of the TP sensor will illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp in the instrument cluster. An TP signal that is detected out of range, high or low, will cause the PCM to only allow the engine to operate at low idle.
<o></o>

<o></o>
Idle Validation Switch
The Idle Validation Switch verifies when the accelerator pedal is in the idle position. This switch protects against in-range failure of the AP sensor.
<o></o>
A PCM detected fault of the Idle Validation Switch will illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp. An inoperative Idle Validation Switch detected by the PCM will only allow the engine to run at idle.

Action4478 beat me to it.
It sounds like the throttle assembly to me as well.

thanks for all the help guys, i really appreciate it, the dealer changed the cps due to the recall but i think you guys are on to something with the tps/ivs thing so as soon as i can get some cash together i think i will replace the pedal assembly and hope that it works, with diesel at $4 a gallon it may take a while. once again thanks so much.....

Ok, I can see the TPS being the problem, but why would 10 seconds make it ok again?

If you can, test it before just replacing it. It would suck to replace a part that doesn't need replacing and then find out the problem is still there.

If he has the adj peddles, there was a recall on them, would that give him the same thing?
