The funeral for my 302 is officially in progress. Why is it when the wife wants landscaping done, dad wants carpentry done, daughter wants attention, son wants any type of automatic weapon, mom wants you to be nicer to your sister, sister wants you to like her husband, dog wants front on doghouse, cat wants rid of dog, brother-in-law wants to borrow tools, and boss wants overtime, THAT'S when the dog gone truck breaks. It wasn't even dignified. On top of that, none of the above have any sympathy for my plight. They just don't understand me.However, I knew I would be among friends here. The worst part is that I can't pay for the heart transplant right now, so my truck will sit, and sit, and sit. No need for flowers or words, gentlemen. I know you understand. I will get over this. I'll get on with my life. After all, tomorrow is another day.......
At the risk of being compared to "slick Willie", I feel your pain my friend. This engine swap of mine is taking an eternity. If I had known then what I know now....I still woulda done it. But I woulda had all the parts needed for the change. It's been 4 weeks since I last drove my truck!! I guess I should be happy that my replacement vehicle is my 85 Corvette, but a Chevy can never take the place of a Ford on it's best day. Hang in there buddy, the sun will shine again, birds will sing, and that Ford of yours will once more carry you proudly down life's highway.
(Sorry guys, I tend to get a lil poetic when I talk about Ford trucks).
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Mar-02 AT 09:07 AM (EST)]I too, feel your pain. My 302 has one foot (or should that be cylinder) in the grave. On the way home the other night, it felt like I lost a cylinder, then I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a lot of smoke. I think it ate a piston, but I won't know for sure until this weekend.

Thanks for the condolences, guys. Plans for my trucks resurection are in the works. (Wife doesn't know!!) lanero, that's how my truck's demise began! Hope everything turns out better than mine.
My 302 won't die (knock on fake wood dash). It has over 300,000km on it and still going strong. Are you guys replacing them with 302's or going with 351's?
I've got a 302 in my garage that I picked up last year for cheap. It's out of an '84 Lincoln. As you can tell, I've been meaning to do a rebuild for my truck for awhile, now I will just have to work a little faster.
Called a machine shop yesterday about the prep work. They will hot tank the block and crack check for $40. I know it will need over bored, that runs $12 per hole. I'm taking the block in next week to get it done.
