Windshield wipers

LAST EDITED ON 23-Sep-01 AT 12:38 PM (EST)[p]I have no wipers or washer motor. Nothing with the wipers work. Fuse under the dash is good, I ohmed it and it checks good. There are 3 relays under the hood and I have swapped them around because they are the same relay and still nothing. Besides the switch it self on the column does any one have any other ideas as to what the problem may be?? Thanks , 98 F150 XL

Could be a loose fuse!

I have had trouble like that before, and the fuse was on the floor when I went to check it. Likewise with several other systems. It is possible that the fuse is plugged in and not making contact. This has happened several times! Try pulling the fuse and bending the tabs slightly in opposite directions, then reinstall it. I am going to the dealer before my warranty runs out(6/75) and see if they replace my fusebox. The first time I had trouble with it,the radio was cutting out when I hit sharp bumps. The fuse was plugged in,but it would lose contact when bumped,,,Good luck,,,98

If you have power windows, check if the auto down function is working. I think I remember mine being tied in with that circuit. It might help you track it down quicker,,,,98

Chances are that if you checked the fuse and tried a known good fuse, you need to check the multi function switch on the column. There has been problems with these in many of the Ford models. They're not cheap (60-80 bucks) So I'd pay to have it diaged. I've sold alot of them at the dealers I've worked at.

I remember that. I used to work at two seperate Ford dealers. The trash cans were full of those "malfunction" switches. From what I've heard from other sources,Ford used non-dielectric grease in them. This caused them to make connections at random. Some poor owners even have their wipers come on by themselves The only thing mine has ever done strange is to not follow intermittent settings. It will swipe once, wait the correct amount of time, then swipe 3 or 4 times without stopping,,,,98

Sure sounds like it for sure. The multi-function switches are poorly made. The taurus is the king for needing them. I used to keep a dozen at all times on the shelf. I'd replace it.
