I recently replaced my 2nd spark plug blowout. Then 2 mths later it blew it out again taking part of the head with it. We ordered a new head from moore's and waited 2 wks to get the part. My husband (diesel mech) n bro-in-law(a ford mech) replaced the head and put back in truck but timing was off. They had another mech try to fix it (with all 3 using alldata) and my truck still has no power. The motor runs fine just with no power they believe the timing is not off by much but are running out of ideas. I have already forked out enuf $ trying to fix this thing and I love my truck so can neone help plz.
So I get it's a gas motor, but year and displacement might help some. I have a 2002 5.4L, so I am going to assume you have a similar motor for my ideas. Timing is computer controlled (distributorless/COP), so the CPS picks up where the motor is in it's rotation and the computer figures out when to fire a coil. So i'd replace or at least the check the CPS first, if it's off, then the computer is getting the wrong information.
I also like to verify there are no vacuum leaks. They can drive you crazy, but are easy to check and fix. Get a can of starting fluid or WD40 and spray around the hoses, manifolds and head gasket while the engine is running. If the motor revs up, you found a leak.
