My stock Superduty 4x4 is used as my daily driver doing 140 highway miles a day. Also tow my heavy pop-up camper a few long trips. On occasion I will do some light off roading for kicks.
Replacing shocks are on my list and am looking for suggestions.
I would like to improve the stock stance of the truck but not sure it would be wise to lift it much due to the amount of highway driving I do.
You guys have any thoughts on this?
What brands and model numbers do you like?
Aside from jacking up the truck and removing the wheels, anything tricky about changing them? Looks like it is just a matter of two bolts. Do they have to be torqued?
I painted mine..yellow just didn't look good on my truck..my front end sagged..I was looking for new springs at the time but new I needed shocks.. after I put them on I now have gaps between the 2 leafs...now my truck feels like its riding on air..well worth the $$$..they are simple to put on..just the 2 bolts..I didn't TQ them..just tightened them up good...
Same as above^^^^^^^^^^ Although I left mine yeller......I didn't even jack the truck up, or pull the tires off when I swapped them out. (just turned the front tires all the way to gain access to the shocks). I love the new ride, I needed shocks sooooo bad.
Bilstein's here to all the way what a difference in the ride I used to be a monroe guy not anymore. I installed them like Ben did just turned the front tires and had at it.
Bilstein's I believe are the best but if you want something a little less $$ take a look at Rancho or Skyjacker. I just put 4 Skyjacker Nitro 8000's for $39 each. plus they give you a $35 mail in rebate. Install was very simple. Just unbolt and replace.
- Just another option if you cant spend the extra money on the bilsteins
just don't get the Rancho rs5000's. I went thru 3 sets before I discovered Bilsteins. I think others have had better luck with the Rancho rs9000's....but Bilsteins are most definitely worth the money!
I finally got the Visa card back from the wife hehehe (evil laugh) and I want to go back to Bilsteins- had em on my 97 F-150 and loved them. Is that eshock.com website about as cheap as you can find them??

Take a peek on eBay, that is where I purchased mine. I forgot the sellers name, but it was from an eBay store, not a private party. He was cheaper than any web site I could find, and cheaper than the local Autozone, for the same Bilstein shock.
They arrived in orginal boxes, never opened or anything.
Just my 2 cents.
eshocks.com: Bilstein Shocks and Struts: F250 4WD (standard suspension) - 1980-2004 See where it says "standard suspension". You have a superduty, correct? H.D. suspension in your truck. I believe you dont want the eshock part number.
I Would Have Bought Bilstein's But I Found A Good Deal On A Set Of Kyb Monomax's On E-bay. They Do Have A Good Ride And I Cant Complain, But Other Wise I Would've Went With The Bilsteins.
Easy Install Also.
So, just to make sure... Both the front and rear shocks are easily replaced? Just remove and bolt on, no need to lift the wheels off the ground? I'm asking because I need to replace mine and a mechanic friend of mine refused to do the shocks making me think it is a difficult job and if I can do it and save money, all the better.

Yeah, went real easy. I had mine swapped in about three hours. I did use an impact wrench. The hardest part is compressing the shock down to fit on the mounts, but even that wasn't that hard.
