What heads can I put on my 87 carbed 351w that are better than stock for more air flow that are cheaper than new aluminum heads and what would the compression ratio be? Thanks
If you can find a set of 69 or 70 year model 351w heads you will be very satisfied. They have bigger valves and smaller chambers. The only downside is the rocker arm studs are pressed in instead of screw in. This isn't a problem unless you want to put guideplates and roller rockers on.
I'd suggest using the GT40p heads. You'll have to do something about the head bolts, use studs for instance, but the GT40p heads are pretty good pieces. Cheap, too.
I agree with Paul on the GT40-p's. From everything I have read you can't beat the gains from this fairly inexpensive set of heads. You do need to be aware though that there are header issues with the GT40-p's. Due to the angle of the spark plug, very few headers will work without:
1) dinging the header to allow clearance for the plug wire
2) buying a special shorter plug
Bottom line is you need to know what kind of exhaust manifolds will work with these heads.
Just my $.02
For the money(about $850)the world products windsor jr heads are hard to beat.If your set up is not going to be too radical, you may be better off getting the stock heads ported and a good valve job, larger valves.
