hey everyone well i have done my research on spark plugs for the 2004 f150 5.4l and it has happend as i slowly attemped to get the 3rd plug out on the drivers side the threads came out but no plug!!! i then used a bit more peatrating oil to loosen the plug and it lossend allright the top part and the electrode it looks like it snaped at the bottom of the thread right at the sleeve so how do i get the remaining porcelin and the other sleeve out with out taking the head off please any help would be great! thanks
i've read a bunch of these horror stories & just the fact that no one has chimed in makes me feel that unfortunately the head is going to have to come off. should prolly have let the dealer get involved in taking those out. i feel for u & ur truck. hope it works out, keep us updated. You may want to pray on this one.
there is a tool kit available for this job..... its pretty pricey, but it does beat the alternative. since the kit will do several cylinders, some guys will sell the remainder of their kits.
I used a 1/4 metal rod shaved down to fit in the hole that the electrode went through. Then I glued it in with REAR VIEW MIRROR adheasive. After 30 minutes I pulled the remaining porcelin out. After that I used a 9m tap to create threads in the electrode shield. Then I used a 9m die to create matching treads in a hardened 3/8 treaded rod. Treaded it in and with a 1/2 inch socket, some washers and nuts I copied the Rotunda tool. You can email me for pics. yesterdayssleds@yahoo.ca
