I'm wanting to put some cab marker lights on my 1994 F250. I like the evenly-spaced pattern that Ford used on the 92-96 trucks with cab lights from the factory as opposed to Dodge's "middle-3" cluster.
Any suggestions on where to get a set of markers from that look as close as possible to OEM without having to dish out the dough for them at the dealer? I've looked at some local junk yards, and all I've seen are trucks that have been rolled and all of the lights are crushed.
Also, any installation suggestions would be helpful. I've got a good friend with a 1997 F350 with cab lights that I plan on making a diagram from.
any auto parts store has them - or can order them from a "keystone" catalog which most of them have - chains and private parts store.
I got a set of ambers from a local private store for about $25 for the set of 5, and mounted them the dodge "middle 3" pattern as for whatever reason, I like it.
I put LED's in mine so I never have to replace bulbs.
You're welcome. I just measured it out using a cloth tape measure I have, which you can get in a fabric/craft store for about a buck. Just measured from the windshield moulding on top and the gutters, marked the front of the lights with a sharpie, then placed the gaskets to that point, and best I could make sure they're straight (i.e. facing forward). Then marked the three holes in the gasket with a sharpie, and drilled.
I installed a Chrysler minivan overhead console in my crewcab, so I did some neat wiring for that. The four interior/map lights on the console get their power from the original interior light's wiring... and up the driver's side pillar are new wires for various things, one powers the switch I added to the overhead console which turns on the roof lights. Fused at 5A in the overhead console.
You should be able to tap the parking lights for powering them, though maybe if they're bright you'd want drive a relay from the parking lights circuit, then feed the contacts of the relay a seperate circuit.
I wired mine to a switch as I said, because sometimes I drive with them on and the headlights off, sometimes the other way around. But I have them so that when I power the truck off, they go off automatically so I can't "forget".
Those LED bulbs that you speak of... Did you have to buy your lights like that, or do they make small LED bulbs that you can replace standard bulbs with, such as turn signals and taillights?
Why?
Just remember if you ever want to sell it, others may not like them. And then there is the problem of leaks. If that ever happens you will wish you never did it.
on my 88, there is a wire ran just for the cab lights behind the drivers side kick panel. i do believe there is one on a 94 also, so there you go no splicing. also i think i have heard that it might be behind the pass side on a newer model, so look around behind a kick panel for it...

The roof markers I got use ordinary bolbs - bayonet base. Available in any auto store, even places like walmart/kmart/radio shack. I replaced these with LED bulbs with the same base that I got off ebay.

They only leak if you install the incorrectly and/or don't inspect the gaskets occasionally. It's like everything else automotive related - pay attention and you'll catch the problem before it becomes a disaster.
As far as having things on a truck that might discourage sellers... in a sense you're right... but I've never had a problem selling a truck regardless of options, features, illumination, condition or lack thereof. While a couple people might walk away because of "cab lights" there will be 10 guys standing in line to buy it, cash in hand.
I have the stock marker lights and I love them. I guess it comes from being a past semi driver. The evenly spaced ones are rare that I have seen. Usually only see them on DOT trucks. Makes my truck easy to find in a parking lot.
Had a low branch crack a lens once. Took forever to find the leak. Turned out that my parts house could not get the lens and sent me to the dealer. Luckily, it was still something they could get. I think it cost me about $20.00.
Attempting to post my first picture below.
