My back-up light don't work, so I'm trying to figure out why. The bulbs are good , but there is no juice coming to them. So my question is, where is the switch that should send power to them.
This is on my 67, which originally had a three-on-a-tree, but is now on the floor. I looked around under there and didn't see anything....
Did you look on the trans? some of the transmissions had a switch on the tranny. Look for a pair of wires going to a switch that looks something like a brake light switch.
AHHHH, on the column, that makes sense as I didn't see anything on the tranny. I'll check that out and see what I see. You think under the hood instead of under the dash?
Your old switch is in the linkage to the 3 speed. The switch you need to be hooked to is on top of the 4 speed trans to the rear of the shifter. You may need to take up the acess panel to get at the switch.
The switch for your back up lights should of been on bracket mounted on the steering column right under the master cylinder just a simple plunger type switch that when you put it in reverse the shifter arm on the column pushed in on the switch and activated your lights if its gone the wires could still be hanging there the bracket if i remember attached with a hose type clamp mines been gone for years when I converted to auto.
Another possibility for you is to remove the original switch and wire in a toggle switch on or under your dash. If you do, just remember to shut them off when you shift out of reverse!
Thanks for all the advice\ideas! I got to pokin around and there was the original plug hangin right there by the rag joint. So ya, now its just the question of how to make them work....
if my original switch is still there I may try and move that to the current shifter and make it work somehow. If not, maybe I'll run it up under the dash.....
We shall see.
I am sooooo happy with what I am seeing in the way of rust on this truck. It is amazingly solid. The only real rust is a quater sized hole in the bottom of the drivers door.
