'99 Explorer 4.0 SOHC
I plan on replacing my brake pads and rotors with Powerslot rotors. I have used the Hawk LTS brake pads on my 3/4 ton trucks and love them. I can only find Hawk LTS brake pads for the FRONT of the explorer. DO they make them for the rear brakes? If not, what would be a good rear brake pad to use? In reading thru these forums, a lot of people say to use ceramic pads for long life and low dust, but that they tend to squeak a lot. Your thoughts?
I run EBC green pads. They have been the best pads I have run so far, but in really slow stop-n-go traffic, they will squeak a little bit. It's never been anything that bothers me that much though. I've heard the Hawk pads are great also.
I didn't see Hawk LTS, but I did see Hawk HPS (High Performance Street) pads for Explorers. Front pads are number 119606 and Rear number is 119607...
I highly recommend the Akebono ProAct ceramics that I recently put on my '99 V8. No noise, little brake dust and good brake feel. I don't think they are considered "high performance" like the Hawk HPS. They should be available in front and rear pads. Also, I would take David's recommendation though I have never used the EBC's.
