Hello, Im looking to get rid of the 4spd in my 390 powered 75, and get rid of the granny 1st gear alltogether. My question is, What tranny would work, and still give me some coin for more mods down the road??
im switching to a c6 same senario, just couldn't shift the old 4 speed fast enough, you can have all the power in the world, but it useless if you cant shift it. i went with 2g stall, rebuilt trans with stage 2 shift kit, and i have about 700 in it.
well, im looking to still tow my boat and have more kick and umph in the higher gears. Im tired of hondas spanking my 500 horse pickemup. A little more out of the hole and driveability is the end result desired. My truck is a 2wd. Id prefer a manual but the swap to auto is easy enough and my wife would never figure out what the third pedal was for!!!
with 500hp i dont see how your truck could be slow i dont care how slow you shift it shiould still be very quick my friend has a 6spd dodge diesel that dynoed 450 to the wheels and its so fast you cant shift it fast enough its insane although there are some really fast hondas running around they have a large wieght advantage to a big truck which makes them hard to beat you should try starting in second that way you only have to shift twice, have you ever dynoed your truck to see how much power its accualy producing you may have alot less than you think i owuld stick with thetrans you have now putting an auto in its place may make your truck even slower depending on the setup, gearing etc
Hmmm. . .you could try a diesel version T19. Almost "car" like gear spread. . . 4.0 - 2.4 - 1.4 - 1 All synchronized. Gas version is similar with a slightly wider gear spread. . . 5.1 - 3.0 - 1.8 - 1 All synchronized.
my truck made 508hp at the back wheels, and no, I cant shift it fast enough. I always start in 2nd gear, but getting a 5500 pound truck moving in a hurry is tough, no matter how much power I have. Id like something with syncros and tough enough guts to handle anything I throw at it. I have 3.54 gears and with my tire size (32/10.50), my granny first almost acts like a real gear again. I again, dont want to throw too much money at the trans, but I want to do something substantial enough to make a difference.
I had a bit of a "frankenstein" Ford a few years back,it was 72 F100 4x4 with a 66-68 428,np435,dana 21,77or78 f250 axles,3.50 gears and 35" tires, and admittedly it had a short wheelbase with a relatively light wooden flatbed,However,it was quick off the line, and i would be surprised it had over 300 hp at the rear wheels.Even though it had headers, and an alum. intake,it only had a 650 holley and it idled smoothly,so i dont think it was a particularly high performance engine. As far as getting a heavy truck moving in a hurry, ive got a 2007 Dodge 2500 quadcab 4x4 with the cummins 5.9 and a/t ,with camper shell and junk,im pushing 7000 lbs,and this truck gets up and goes! I drove both the 6 spd manual and the a/t,i only went with the a/t so the wife could drive it.....
