Modular block and 5-speed

can any one tell me if the 5-speed behind my 4.2L V6 will bolt up to a 4.6L PI V8 from a crown Vic. Ive got 2 old PI 4.6L, wanted to put one in my 97 F150 but I want to keep my 5-speed. another question will the clutch bolt up too? or do i need a new flywheel fo the 4.6L. It's just a thought havent decided if I want to go through with it, expecially with gas prices the way they are, I might stick with my 19.8 MPG.

Hmm, not sure about that one. Sounds like a question for a Mustang guru.

You will need a new flywheel. Automatic and manual flywheels are not interchangeable.

I don't see why it wouldn't bolt up....

Just remember that your 5-speed is fairly weak...

Automatics have a flext plate whereas a manual transmission has a flywheel

Smallblock bolt pattern

ok, so i did some more reading and found that the 4.2L has the same bolt pattern as the good ol' smallblock. I also know where 2 5.8L windsor blocks sinking into the ground on my grandparents farm so I may see about rebuilding one for my truck but the 5-Speed strength and gearing are still a little bit of a concern. as of now it dosen't have the torque or the gearing to go uphill in 2nd or easily in R. anyone know what t-case this truck has and of another stronger 5-speed that will bolt up to it?
