Ok Im confused

OK so whats the low down on the 2008 6.4s as off now. Everybody I talk too has bad fuel mileage. Ive talked to everybody i know that has one off these trucks an get the same response horrible fuel mileage. I know the dealers are frustrated too. Gas superduties are selling way better then diesels by far according to them. Im kind off disgusted I was thinking off trading my truck in for a new 2008. But man with fuel costs the way they are Im holding back to see what happens. I cant imagine the EPA screwing us up like this. Were burning tons more fuel to have less pollution. Doesnt make sense to me. Dont worry guys Im a Ford guy to the core. I would never buy anything else. Ford by far has the best truck an has for years. But this fuel mileage thing is really scary. Im hoping for some improvment. Sorry for the rant. Thanks for letting me vent.

"I cant imagine the EPA screwing us up like this" ROFL that is the funniest thing I have heard all year! That is all the EPA does, I think it is part of their mandate.

However you are right the new diesels do not get very good mpg, Dodge and GM are in the same boat though.

I don't think the problem lies completly with the trucks, when ever the government gets involved in anything it's a cluster.

Also part of the problem can lie with the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel we are required to burn in these trucks. Here in New Jersey a few years ago the state required a winter blend of gasoline that just killed all fuel mileage. After much protesting by auto groups and studies by the state DOT the requirement was resended. Just my .02.

Poor MPG means different things to different folks.. I look at it this way, The power stroke gets the worst MPG of the big three,,not by a little bit but a lot. Honestly if I had it to do over again I would give up on some stuff that caused to to buy the Ford and go with the Cummings Dodge. When you pull and drive as many miles as we do Fuel mileage becomes very important. What did these Ford guys do,,say..OK guys lets build the heaviest truck with the smallest motor and the fewest gears in the xmittion and lets have it get the lowest MPG??? shame on Ford.. Driving up I75 From Florida right now we did 10.8 Sat and 8.8 Sunday pulling a 13K plus 5th wheel. The durimax and Cummings do far better..I am talking about the new generation big trucks. And I respectfully disagreee..The problem is with the Ford Motor..The other guys use the same fuel.

What kind of mileage do the V10s get pulling this weight? Curious because I have not owned a V10 but can't imagine them getting better mileage or even the same mileage as the 6.4

My 99 V10 running high test averaged 7.5 (computer)towing 16,650# my 450 average is 8.76 hand caluculated. currious what the new Dodge & Chevys average with this much weight. So many times people do not give the accurate mpg. I was told I would averge 12mpg towing and 18 mty with a diesel. So many factors to consider

Thumbs up

Maybe I'm the exception but the mileage on our 08 F-450 6.4 L w/4.88's is exactly the same as our 99.5 F-450 7.3 L w/4.88's: 10 - 12 MPG around town and 6 - 8 MPG towing our 21,000# fiver.

This truck does everything I ask it to do and is classy, quiet and extraordinarily comfortable in the process. Can't wait to get behind the wheel every day.

Now fuel prices are a different issue......
