What is more desirable, the 351C or the BOSS 302?. I know that there is no replacement for displacement, but then again the 302 is lighter. Also I know that there are alluminium blocks avaliable for the 302, but is it enough to make any difference? Also is it correct that the Boss 302 can be built to rev higher?? I believe that the 4V 351C (1971, XYGTHO) got 380hp, what about the 302?, Would the 302 give better fuel milage?
Thanks, 335C

What are you building the engine for? High speed or torque. IMHO the BOSS 302 is a collector type engine. Any parts you buy for it are going to be quite expensive. It will NEVER make the torque the 351c will (yes, I know never is a big word) given they have the same modifications. You are going to have to turn the Boss a lot harder to get the power you want. The heads are soggy on the bottom end. After 3500 rpm they really wake up. Problem is when are you gonna want to turn 3500-7000 like the Boss is capable of? You did mention mileage. If you want torque (what most people want, they think it's horsepower) go with the 351. Plenty of power, cheaper parts, don't have to rev to outer limits for it, decent mileage if you keep your foot out of it, and the weight difference is only about 100 lbs. Not enough to worry about. The 351 is a fine engine whose much publicized oiling problems are only a worry for all out racing. Given a dollar for dollar budget, the 351 will bust a Boss any day of the week. Just my .02 cents.Good luck.
By the way you asked what it was gonig in, it's a 1979 XC Falcon. Originally it had a 250 crossflow and a 3 speed Borg-warner 35 auto. It now has the cleveland V8 and a 4sp manual. It also now has twin bonnet scops, square GXL headlights, a bumper with rubber overiders, new carpet, and other minor tings. I have got the gear now for it to get a 4 barrel carb (next thing on the list of things to do), and one day hopefully it will get a 9" limited slip, a 4 core radiator, a paint job, GXL or LTD dash, LTD Seats, dual exhaust and whatever I decide is a good idea at the time. The car is not registered so I can take as long as I want, fooling around getting it 'good'. Nothing serious, it's just my hobby car.

You're welcome.
Sounds like a cool car. I think I saw one of those in Superford magazine once. It's an Aussie car isn't it? It's nice to have a project.Best of luck with it!
Yes the car was made here in Australia, (Sydney I think) in 1979. I have just got an LTD as well, If your interested I could probably send you some photos of it, my email is cleverland_351(No Email Addresses In Posts!),
