If the transfer case shift motor is working you can hear it. With the key on and the engine off turn the **** to 4x4. You should hear the "wrrrr ckick" as it drops into gear. Same thing for low range.
If the motor isn't working the first thing you should do is remove and clean the harness connector at the t-case.
On my 02 the dial doesn't "light up" when I turn it. Try turning the key to "on" (don't start) and turn the dial to 4-Hi. You should hear it a very positive sound with a click when it stops.
Cookie,27 is good but dont see a #59 fuse, goes to #48 only and there is no sound cumming from the transfer case.I also checked the connection on the switch its self because i had to remove the dash once and it was okay.
Fuse number 111 is a 30 maxi fuse labeled for the 4WD/ESOF and number 19 is the only other one I see that refers to the ESOF system. On an 02, everything is under the dash.
In the owners manual, F2-59 is labeled 111. If that is good, next step would be get under the truck, pull the plug off the motor and check for power. If you got it, then the connection is bad or the motor is gone.
hey guys tried everything so took it to a friend at the ford dealer and he hooked up a laptop and he turned on the light for the 4x4 on the dash board. He said it cant be the gem so it has to be the 4x4 switch.Guess what,i ordered the switch and it still doesn't work, anymore advice. Thanks
I had the same problem for a while and it was that the tab on one of the two electrical connectors on the transfer case had broken off and it would back out with road vibration. Right now whenever I want to engage 4wd I have to crawl under the truck and push it back in.... So much for shift on the fly
