steering gearbox
I have a n.o.s steering gearbox and shaft I'm putting on my 54 ford. My question is can I dissconnect the old gearbox and pull out bottom and slide new one in tube and bolt on without pulling whole thing through cab. I was just seeing if anyone has done it this way and if there would be anything obstructing it from coming out bottom. Thanks

I'm not sure. But let me tell you a story of a kid with a 55 ford F100 (me) and I pulled out the shaft and cut 3 inches out of it and the welded it together. This was back in 1977 and I don't remember what I pulled but I did not remove box. Also after cutting down shaft I ground in a 45 degree angle on both peices. Set on floor of shop and tacked it , rolled it, repeat. After 4 times weled it solid. My point is I got shaft out without removing box.I did have to remove inside tube. I'm sure that didn't answer your question though. Kurt G. Y-blocks rule.
