I just can't seem to get the Autolite carb on my 292 right, so I have decided I'm going to buy a new (re-man) Holley. The part number is 64-5043. Will this fit right on in place of the Autolite?
64-5043 is the only replacement number anyone can give me for my Autolite...
To my knowledge Holley 2 barrel carbs bolt right on in place of Ford 2 barrels. Holley carbs have the same bolt pattern and I have swapped a few Ford two barrels out with Holley's.
That is not to say that there was an odd ball Ford or Holley made but you should be good with the swap.
Holley rebuilds all makes of carburetors, so the 64-5043 should be identical to the Autolite 2100 that you have now.
If you want a genuine Holley carburetor you'll want the Model 2300, which has the same bolt pattern as your Autolite. I don't think that Ford ever used that carburetor, so you'll have to get one for another application.
International Harvester used the Holley 2300 for many years, so you might try one to fit a late '60s IHC with a 304-V8 engine (closest in size to the Ford 292). I've got a 1969 3/4-ton with a 304-V8 and is uses part number 64-3137, which is also remanufactured, but it is a genuine Holley carburetor.
If you want a brand-new carburetor, Holley makes a 350-cfm universal version of the 2300 that is part number 0-7448.
I got a brand new universal 2300 (0-7448). Price was $269 at the local speed shop. I am very pleased with it. Thanks again for the info on that carb!
I inspected the original carb a bit more, and something I didn't notice the first few times it was apart was that the main shaft that the lower throttle plates are attached to is very sloppy...I think that is why I couldn't ever get the old one right...
