Need Help From The Experts!

hi guys, don't post here much, but read a ton. you guys are the most knowledgeable on the net and i need some help!

i'll try and keep this short and clear.

2003 7.3L, K&N filter, Edge evolution 60hp setting, 115,000 miles on truck.

starts well, begins to idle rough like the crank isn't balanced or something. smokes a little more than it should at high idle. go to drive down the road and there's no power and truck will stall. let sit for a few minutes, starts hard (turns over 10 seconds), idle smooths out and truck runs great rest of the day. tows well, mileage is good, no smoke, etc.

doesn't do it every day, i can't pinpoint timing other than it's first start of the day, no other time. been doing for a couple weeks, was hoping it would come out of it but it hasn't.

changed fuel filter, run diesel kleen every tank of fuel.
oil needs changing, but "dont' think" that's doing it?
just had the crank sensor replaced under recall.

CODE: P1211 injector pressure above or below normal

i'm hoping it's nothing major ($$$) and you guys can steer me in the right direction. maybe a bad sensor? bad injector and if so can i change or replace just one?

thanks for the help guys, i really appreciate it.

First, I'd take the chip off it...bring it back to stock for diagnosis. Then I'd get better air filtration for it (AIS or 6637). Then find someone who can pull codes on a PSD to see if there are any stored DTC's. Then I'd check the UVC harness for chaffing and wear.

Oh yeah, the next time your truck is cold...pull the allen plug on the top of the HPOP...check oil level and make sure it is within an inch of the top of the HPOP.

Do you still have the original CPS? Might be the problem and it's a warrenty issue so won't cost you anything but time.

The code 1211 points to the HPOP system. Make sure your oil it not low. I would go a far as to say change the oil before you do anything else. These engines are very fussy about oil. If that don't get it, the we can look at you ICP and IPR.

The P1211 code is normal for your tuner..like Barry says, your tuner is trying to increase the injector pressure and the HPOP can't keep up... Mine does the same thing. Can't suggest any help for your cold idle problem. However, you might consider swithing to a synethic oil, like Rotella 5W40. I bet it will make a difference..

I vote for an oil change as well.
These engines are SOOOOOO picky when it comes to oil.

thanks for the help guys. after looking at my records it's been about 12,000 miles since my last oil change!! ( i know, shame on me). i run mobil 1 synthetic and usually change it around 8,000, don't know what happened this time.

the oil suggestion makes sense, i just got back from the store and headed out to change it now. it was suggested that i change the CPS again, but it was running poorly before it was changed so i know that's not it. i really think it just needs an oil change due to my lack of attention.

i'll post back, i really appreciate the help!!!
