Going racing today

Going to take the F250 up to Newton Iowa and do a little racing. This is the new race track they built last year for nascar style racing but they built it so they could run 1/8th mile drags through the pit lane. Did it last year and had a blast, heading up today to get a baseline of what my truck is going to run this year with current mods, I am hoping I can add a couple things as the year goes and would like to see how each one affects the times (gives a pretty good indicator of how much power your putting on the ground, and what the change is) my truck was pretty darn consistant last year so any change should really show up.
Wish I could afford it right away but thinking might add the pulse from dieselsite and that one is really going to interest me in back to back (ok one weekend to the next) runs to see HOW much difference it makes on a tuned truck with stock injectors, I am betting it makes a BIG difference but will have to wait and see I guess.

Anyway a major reason I posted this, was to let anyone that happens to be in or around Iowa know this is going on. last year I was the only ford 7.3 psd running (had a couple 6.0s show up,but mostly Duramax's) it's nice when any other diesel shows to give the guys in cars headaches by beating them with a 7100lb truck. So if any of you guys that live within driving distance or happend to be driving through Iowa this year, check it out

The scheduale is here

here is the link to the home page of the track and they even have 2 live 24/7 web cams, not the best vid quality but you can see what kind of vehicles are running anyway.

I didn't look hard enough the first time, thanks for the tip.
It's pretty empty right now, just a few cars driving around the pit area, looks like.

Hey monsterbaby we are headed out there too but not till next weekend, hopefully I can get off work and head out friday afternoon it's about 240 miles from here. I don't think they ever have drag races on the weekends we go out there though. I would like to see them...not sure my 01 would be much competition though. I don't think it's very fast but it pulls our fifth wheel very nicely.

Ok I did a little playing sunday at the races since it WAS test and tune. What I found makes me think it's definitely time for a new HPOP probably a pulse. I am running a dp tuner (with gauges, 5" exhuast 6637 airfilter and reg return fuel, everything else pretty much stock)
140 extreme setting I ran 9.765-9.785 pretty consistantly, so I dropped to 120hp race and my times were running 9.665 - 9.690 (I had one 9.582 @ 70.18mph don't know where that came from though and couldn't repeat it) so deciding to see I dropped to 80hp tune a couple times and was within the same times as 140 setting. Now the one thing I did notice all my 60ft and 330ft times are the same no matter what my final ET was 60ft was always 1.97-2.0 so I am only gaining and losing on the top end no matter which setting i am on.
Now I don't have a scan tool but I would put money on just plain running out of high pressure oil at the higher settings, basically just pushing the limits of hte stock HPOP. Whats your alls opinion? I really am curious now how much will be gained.

You are running out of ICP. I posted about this last year with my 11 passes at the track where I saw little difference. IDK what turbo you have but adding more ICP would likely result in more smoke rather than more power as you may not be able to clean it up.

I too thought I had a weak HPOP but during my live tuning with Jody last week, mine was holding 2800 on the single shots. My split shots would pull that down to about 2k on the 140 tune after a good steady run of full throttle.

So my answer is I think an HPOP/BO would help up to the point the splits can inject no more, which is believed to be about 350hp. If you are already making that power, then new injectors are in order along with a new turbo setup possibly.

I ran a similar time at Smokin' this past weekend in the 120 setting. The first run I forgot to turn off the overdrive and the PCM was still learning the new tunes that Jody had installed. I was running against a Duramax that had put down 426HP on the Dyno earlier. He had traction issues I believe because I jumped him a couple of truck lengths at the start, had him at the 60 foot(2.277 to his 2.938), and 333 foot (6.687 to his 7.042) but he beat me to the line partially because my tranny shifted into OD then back down to third and he caught me and passed me at the stripe. 10.140 at 82.23mph to my 10.350 at 69.803.
My second and last run was much better (except for the fact that I was lined up next to a guy in a Duster with a big block that ran 7.08) I ran a 9.953 at 71.215mph with 60ft at 2.094 and 333ft at 6.388. All of this was at around 2500ft above sea level, I believe. So at sea level I would be close I think to the runs you were having Monsterbaby.

As far as what's going on with your truck's HPOP I am sure that Mike is dead on. After listening to him this weekend I have to say he is pretty smart about what is going on with these trucks and he is also a smart azz too.

Mike I understand what your saying about not enough turbo, right now as I said turbo and injectors are factory original stock. I do run right at 28psi boost and really never do get much smoke out of my truck even on 140hp smoke tune which is also part of why I am thinking pushing the HPOP. I don't have a scan tool anymore, but I do know when I first got the DP Tuner I did make a couple runs and although I don't remember what the pressures were I do know it was dropping off on even the 80hp tune when I stayed on it. Eventually I plan on switching probably to stage II single shots, haven't made 100% decision. and going to go with a BB turbo, haven't decided on the garrett or TN yet.

I am really leaning towards getting the pulse though.

Monster, I would PM Brandon(BDrummonds) about the Pulse. He and Jody had a chat about it at Smokin' on the live tune day. I think you may want to get with Brandon and see what was said before you invest in it.

MB, I think anyone will benefit with any bigger oil setup. This has been proven. The thing for me was return on investment. The math said BO would take me to the limit of the stock turbo and injector. It also said a bigger turbo would leave me at what the stock HPOP could supply which wouldn't be the the 350hp the injectors can support with better oil. Singles theoretically would give me all the fuel I could use and then some with a stock turbo using the stock HPOP. I went ahead and upgraded turbo and injectors first since they were going to be required for my goal of 400hp. I made it without big oil.

Just food for thought. You may want to do some ICP data logging on the stock setting and then the 140 and compare. If it holds anything above 2k ICP you should be able to hold around 28-2900 for some singles with the stock pump. Rich/whitebuffalo is holding about 3k ICP on his singles using his stock HPOP.

Bottom line, big oil or not, stock splits are only good for about 350 give or take, no matter what else you do. Hope this helps.

hmmm sounds like maybe it's time to invest in some singles and have Jody redo my tunes first. My big goal right now shouldn't be too tough I am thinking and that is to put the truck into the 8s in the 1/8th (only one other diesel in the area that is running 8.8## and that is a new cummins with twin hairdryers and a LOT of other stuff, and it's owned by the shop that sells that stuff, I WANT to get there) The more stock parts still on my truck when I do it the better I feel about it. I don't know what my power is at now though. maybe someone with similar setup as mine was at smokin that was on the dyno for a comparison.
