Got a '78 302 with e7te heads edelbrock intake & carb.
Currently v belt with only an alternator.New cam this weekend, want
to change to Serpentine while I'm there. Will be adding power
& air soon, but not yet.Has standard rotation WP & passanger side
inlet. Need to keep this configuration. Anyone have any suggestions
on what might fit. It's in a '54 F100 so plenty of room. Looking
for boneyard type stuff just not sure what years to look for. Thanks.
Best option for you is to look in late 80's to early 90's Licoln's, Mercury's, or Ford Crown Vic's. Check the emmisions label to make sure it's a 5.8L engine stuffed between the fenders. Tring to change over to a serpentine belt system is hard for a single accessory. Your best bet is to stay with the V-belt until you get ready to add the other items. Unless you put mounting pads with pullies in for now where the other items are suppose to mount to.
The other two guys are correct if you're using factory sepentine pulleys. March Pulley and Brackets makes a kit to convert any SBF or 429/460 to a serpentine pulley setup. They claim it bolts on easily, and works with your standard rotation water pump. Looking at the picture of it in Summit catalog, I don't know why a person couldn't just get some serpentine style stock pulleys and make it work themselves with a little thought and some work. I have all the pulleys I need except for the crank pulley. Once I find one of those, I'll try it out and let you know what happens.
I'm looking into the same conversion, I like how clean the March Pulleys look, but I should probably be shopping for driveline mods to handle the power I already have...
