Where do the tools go?

Just did a compleat shop clean out today and relized that I am missing a shat load of tools and cant figure out why. I never take much of anything outside of the shop and Im the ony one that ever inside. Im not talking about dollar store tools eather some of this stuff is expensive. Does anyone else have this problem?

Sometimes!

I had a pickle fork (big one, the kind you can hit with a hammer) that I lost for about two years. I don't even remember where I ended up finding it, but it's in my toolbox now.

Probably in your dryer with your missing socks.

I've had a few tools grow legs. I found one of my sockets that I've been missing for a few months today. Still missing a 1/4" drive 12 point 8 mm socket, and a pair of side cutters. I lost a 1/2" wrench a couple years back. I know exactly where it is too, I just can't get to it. It's in a truck, under the carpet, and under the seat.

I have problems with tools getting layed down in route to the phone. It helps to have absolutely no clutter anywhere you may lay a tool down.

Unfortunately I have this problem as well, and for me at least I do know the root cause. Since my garage bay/shop is a complete mess, climbing over stuff to get to the tool box at the back of the garage is a pain, so when I'm done a project, often times I place the tools on the floor at the front of the garage to "clean up tomorrow" which never comes. Then the "pile" of junk/tools/stuff just keeps getting bigger, making the problem worse and worse.

Of course as it keeps getting worse, it mentally becomes an overwhelming mess to clean up, so I never do.

Got Parents? My dad wonders into the shop and "borrows" tools all the time.

My 3 y/o son likes to scatter my sockets and screwdrivers all over the grass. I find most of them but occasionally my riding tractor has found a few.

Changed all the locks today, and I am the only key holder.

It's THE TOOL GREMLIN. I swear by Neptune that the tools are put away in their normal spot. The kids are living on the other side of the country. And anything smaller than a pipe wrench still disappears. GREMLINS.

But they magically reappear where least expected

I blame the missing tools on my sons or the dogs. Friends I think I'll lock out of the garage. I was missing a socket a while back so I had to buy another. Mentioned to friend that I couldn't find the socket and ended up buying another, then he tells me he borrowed it..

Of course! Why would you keep looking once you found it?
