Need some help identifing items
I lack a lot of knowledge on certain things that might have been done by the prior owner of my 2000 V10 X Limited.
I just switched back to the stock size tires in the Michelin LTX A/T 2 in a E load. I use the truck to tow my toy hauler and BBQ equipment to competitions, so I went back to stock size to better take advantage of the 4.30 rear end.
What a much better ride over the 305 70 16's I had on there before. I would get a bounce at 65 to 70 in the front end, now with the LTX's the ride is very smooth.
However, I was under the truck at it looks like there might a small lift. It might already have a sway bar in the back installed and not sure on the springs.
Can you look at the pictures and give some help.
This looks like some type of lift??
Is that a sway bar??
Stock rear springs???
The truck tows very well, just want to know what I have and what I might need.
Thanks in advance.
David
First off...you DO have a rear sway bar (the thing that goes up and over the rear driveshaft).
Second...I couldn't immediately tell in your photos...My spring pack has 6 individual springs (not including the lowest one which is the anti-wrap one...the one with the rubber snubber pointing upwards...if I counted that one I'd have 7). In your photos...it is hard to tell how many are in your spring pack...there IS a difference in mine over yours in the area directly by the FRONT most spring hanger bracket. The part where the rubber snubber hits on YOURS appears to have TWO springs thick...on MINE...the rubber snubber hits directly onto the TOP MOST spring that goes to the hanger (the one that is curved/rounded).
While yours doesn't appear to have a lift (those large spacer blocks appear stock)...your spring pack does look slightly diferrent than mine...perhaps someone who has swapped their springs for the V/B code swap (F250/350s) or someone with a 2000 Ex can comment if their anti-wrap leaf hits the top most or second top most spring?
Joe.
The previous owner did several mods, so I am trying to piece it together. He put it a K&N filter, Pro Comp shocks, sway bar etc.
The X tows my toy hauler really well, I should have changed to this a long time ago.

The OEM anti-wrap leaf works ONLY in ONE direction (acceleration) to assist with keeping the spring pack from wrapping. It is USELESS under braking conditions or when a heavy tongue of a trailer is PUSHING on the rear of the Ex.
It is my opinion that there are better ways to attack the issues in the rear of the Ex over using radius rods. The radius rods attack ONE aspect of the ailments of the rear suspension...and that is the wrapping condition when towing and the tongue weight is PUSHING. HOWEVER the rear spring pack on the Ex IMO needs assistance...many have gone air bags AND radius rods. My opinion is that a set of F250/350 springs OR a RoadMaster Active suspension (RAS) ALONE will address the same issues that both air bags AND radius rods are needed to address...not saying that doing both is a bad thing...if you already have air bags...going radius rods makes sense...but if someone is starting out new on the rear of the Ex...the RAS or F250 springs will accomplish the same thing...that's all.
So to answer your question...NO the anti-wrap leaf will NOT eliminate the need for some other fix to cure a rear wandering Ex...but depending on the CAUSE of the wander (towing or not)...there are fixes out there that will shore up the rear of the Ex.

You mean that not all underbodies look like mine??? What is this salt you speak of

Yes, living out in sunny (and soon to be hot) AZ. Weather has been great, up in the mid 80's for the last few weeks.
Thanks for the help, I was pretty sure on the sway bar, but I was not too sure if it had a small lift.
The thing rides better towing, so much better than my old Expy.
I am taking off this weekend for a BBQ competition, so I can't wait to see how it handles the new E loan tires and the toy hauler.
Ya i believe you. I live in cleveland. They salt the roads when it doesnt even snow!!
BTW it makes me wanna slash their tires! They put so much salt out here that when we got 24 inchs of snow that one snow storm, they didnt have any salt to salt the roads. We had snow covered roads for 2 days lol.toys4dlr, my underbody still has alot of paint on it. But that is because i power wash my rear under after every snow storm.
