[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Apr-02 AT 12:01 PM (EST)]We have a serious power problem with a new long block 302. Plugs burn black after trial run. Timing is ok, vacuum connections are all ok,(eliminated all polution control) new intake and carb, all new ignition components (distributor, duraspark II, ford wires and plugs.
could the length of the push-rods give these symptoms.
Could someone tell me the length of the proper push-rods that go in a 302 1984. We would like to compare the length to the existing ones,
(haven't pulled one out yet)Either that or the proper part # so I could get the specs myself.
If you have black plugs after the initial run your carb is dumping way too much fuel. Check to make sure your needle and seats aren't stuck open or that there isn't something stuck in them. Next check the float is adjusted correctly. Then look at your jetting. Are they too big? By the way what kind of carb are you running? That would help out even more.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Apr-02 AT 06:57 PM (EST)]We put in an Edelbrock 4 barrel 600 CFM with an Edelbrock intake manifold (Performer) the carb is a remanufactured and we heard that they have problems with them. Is there any truth to that? Thanks for the info airharley. Also, all the plugs were black exept for one which was a perfect white color, Does that tell you something ???
