Had my 99 F350 S/C SRW LB V10 out on the highway a couple days ago, when I suddenly experienced one hell of a vibration coming from the front. It sounded like a wheel was coming off. There was no sideway sway though. I quickly stopped the truck and checked the wheels - nothing everythings tight. Started to roll again and it disappeared, but came back at the next bump. This went on and on until I finally flipped the ESOF into 4H and it was gone. I checked both hubs and they are set to auto. Flipped them back and forth a couple of time to confirm. Anyone have any idea on this. Front end feels tight.
Google " ford death wobble.."..I have the same thing. You will hear opinions on how to fix it from Pitman arm adjustment, steering stabalizer, alignment, new tires, tie rods, stuck brake caliper, etc. Good luck!
If it was a bearing, wouldn't it make a sound in 2 & 4wd? Sorry, my Jeep and Durango are both full-time 4wd and I've never run into the vacuum operated hubs before. When switching to 4wd from the cab, should the manual switches on the hub actually move as well? I've manually turned them a few times just to make sure that they work, but never thought about their operation. Do they use vacuum to engage, disengage or both?
ok i'll try to explain, in 2x4 the fr. hub is turning the axle is not ,with bad bearing= vib& or noise. when in 4x4 the hub & axle turn togeter= no vib maybe someone who is computer literate can find some pics. anyway i tried ,barry
